Luxembourg’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture has published a call for tenders on the Public Procurement Portal for the “Schouluebstprogramm” for the 2026/2027 school year and is encouraging agricultural producers and distributors to participate.

Through the “Schouluebstprogramm 2026/2027”, Luxembourg is implementing the European School Fruit and Vegetables Scheme for the eighteenth time, noted the ministry. The programme aims to increase fruit and vegetable consumption among pupils and introduce young people to the flavours of agricultural products.

At the start of the new school year, the programme will expand to ten additional school sites. In Luxembourg, 98% of primary and secondary school pupils benefit from the programme. During the previous school year, 449 pupils visited a farm as part of the programme's educational activities, an increase of 15%.

The 2026/2027 tender comprises five lots open to local agricultural producers. Small producers may join together to submit a bid. The remaining two lots are intended for distributors, who will supply the rest of the fruit and vegetables required for the programme and manage the logistics involved in delivering all produce to 427 school sites.

Around one-third (33.78%) of the fruit and vegetables distributed under the programme will come from Luxembourg, equivalent to 159.7 tonnes of locally produced apples, pears and carrots. More than 36% of all produce will be organic, including all locally supplied carrots. All bananas distributed through the programme must also be organic and Fairtrade.

Local producers participating in the scheme will be required to welcome school classes to their farms as part of educational activities promoting local and healthy food. During the 2025/2026 school year, a record 449 primary school pupils took part in such visits, compared with 382 the previous year.

The programme is co-financed by the European Union and the Luxembourg State and coordinated by the Administration of Technical Agricultural Services (ASTA).

The deadline for submissions is Monday 21 September 2026.
