On Tuesday 11 March 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, announced the launch of two new support packages for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Developed by Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy, in collaboration with the House of Entrepreneurship (HoE) of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and national innovation agency Luxinnovation, an initial set of two SME support packages were established in 2019 in order to provide financial assistance to SMEs to enable them to address challenges related to digital transformation and the optimisation of customer experience. This offer was then expanded in 2022, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts (CDM), to include a package relating to energy transition.
At the “Future Ready Days" event, held at Luxexpo The Box in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy, the Chamber of Commerce and the CDM announced two new packages related to artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity, thus reinforcing the importance of digitalisation for SMEs. The packages announced by the ministry are:
- the "SME Package - AI" which assists SMEs in their first steps towards utilising artificial intelligence and offers simple and easy implementation solutions to assist them in integrating AI into their processes;
- the “SME Package - Cybersecurity" which facilitates the implementation of technologies and procedures related to IT security and strengthens the protection of SMEs against cyberattacks.
Minister Delles also announced the modification of the conditions to obtain these aid packages, as well as their scope. Now, financial aid granted as part of the five packages can cover up to 70% of eligible costs within the range of €3,000 to €25,000. The minister also emphasised that it is important that companies have the possibility to subscribe to additional packages as soon as one package is finalised.
The ministry has invited interested companies to contact the HoE or the “eHandwierk” service of the CDM (for craft-based companies) to undertake a pre-analysis. More information can also be obtained during a series of webinars which will take place at the end of March/early April 2025.
The “Future Ready Days event", was organised jointly by the Ministry of the Economy, the HoE and the CDM, and dedicated to the digital transition of SMEs. The 2025 edition placed particular emphasis on using artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to explore concrete solutions which can boost innovation and protect companies. The event brought together nearly 300 participants, who were able to take part in a networking session where entrepreneurs provided insight and testimonies into their experience of integrating AI and facing cyber attacks. The Chamber of Commerce, CDM, Luxembourg House of Cybersecurity and Luxinnovation were also present on site with an information stand in order to answer any questions from attendees.
Discussing the event, Minister Delles stated: "SMEs must constantly adapt to new challenges. This is why events like Future Ready Days are essential: they offer an ideal setting to exchange and find the best solutions together. Also, faced with the rise in power of artificial intelligence and the increase in risks in cybersecurity, we decided to launch new SME Packages specifically dedicated to these issues. Thanks to these SME Packages, we give SMEs the means to materialise both major projects and more modest initiatives, while fully seizing the double opportunities of energy and digital transition and optimising their customer relationship."
Director of Entrepreneurship at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Stéphanie Damgé, added: "The Chamber of Commerce will continue its commitment in actively supporting Luxembourg companies in their digital transition. Targeted training, expert advice and concrete financing systems will allow companies to seize growth opportunities. Preparing for the digital future of our companies also preserves their security, guarantees their resilience and strengthens their capacity to innovate in a constantly changing world."
Director General of the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts, Tom Wirion, commented: "AI offers many opportunities to enrich the world of craftsmanship by improving efficiency, stimulating creativity and allowing better connection between companies and their customers. It is, however, essential that companies use these tools thoughtfully, preserving the value of craftsmanship and the authenticity in their work, and that they adopt an appropriate approach to cybersecurity. Digital transition is not possible without investment and guidance. For this reason, the new SME Packages put in place by the Ministry of the Economy, as well as the offer of guidance proposed by the CDM and the HoE, are two essential axes for SMEs on the road to the future."
