Restaurant and bar owners in Luxembourg have come together to launch the "Lights On Luxembourg" campaign in response to continued COVID-19 restrictions on the sector.

The new campaign launched on Wednesday 6 January 2021 following the government's announcement one day earlier that shops and cultural venues could reopen next week but bars, restuarants, cafes and clubs must remain closed until 31 January 2021.

As explained on the "Lights On Luxembourg" Facebook group page, many establishments feel that the hospitality industry is not being heard "and is simply on its knees while unfair decisions continue to be made at the expense of local business owners".

As part of the campaign, which aims to raise awareness of this difficult situation and protest government measures, business owners in the sector are invited to turn on their outside lights to make it look like they are open for business and post a photo on social media with the hashtag #lightsonluxembourg.

The campaign will run until at least 31 January 2021, depending on how long restrictions last.
