The proportion of new entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 64 in Luxembourg reached 9.2% in 2016, according to STATEC.
With over 9% of its population being new entrepreneurs, Luxembourg is now located above the European average of 8.6%. Over the last five years, the proportion of such entrepreneurs has remained stable around 9%.
The results of the 2016 study, carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and the Commerce Chamber, have been presented in the framework of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring (GEM) International Programme.
The GEM inquiry, reacting to 2,000 residents between 18 and 64 years, shows that in 2016 the percentage of directors of emerging companies was at 9.2% in Luxembourg. This rate is slightly higher than that of neighbouring countries. In Germany for example the rate was 4.6% and in France it was 5.3%. Belgium did not participate in the inquiry.
The 2016 investigation also confirmed that entrepreneurial project managers in Luxembourg are mainly motivated by their independence and their economic needs.
In addition, for this year's GEM report, emphasis has been given to barriers and facilitators of the national entrepreneurial ecosystem and the lobby between the policies and the perception of the company's values.
