On 17 June 2019, Luxembourg bank BGL BNP Paribas celebrated its 100th anniversary at an official ceremony in the presence of His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri.

The evening's programme included speeches by BGL BNP Paribas Chairman of the Board, Etienne Reuter, Prime Minister and Minister of State Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister and BGL BNP Paribas CEO Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, as well as exchanges with the Chairman of the BGL BNP Paribas Executive Committee, Geoffroy Bazin. Similarly, Pascal Picq, palaeoanthropologist and lecturer at the Collège de France spoke at this event.

The deed of incorporation of the Banque Générale du Luxembourg was signed on 29 September 1919 following a series of initiatives between Société Générale de Belgique and two Luxembourg lawyers, Alphonse Weicker and Léandre Lacroix. Over the decades, the bank has continued to develop its activities and has established a network of agencies covering the entire country.

Being the partner of a clientele made up of individuals, professionals and companies (whose projects and investments it supports), BGL BNP Paribas has become one of the largest banks in the country. It has made a significant contribution to the development of Luxembourg's financial centre and is a pillar of financing the Luxembourg economy.

Monday thus marked the beginning of BGL BNP Paribas' 100th anniversary festivities, which include, besides the official ceremony, customer events, a highlight for employees and a conference on corporate commitment and finance organised in autumn.
