The annual National Day of Commemoration on 10 October is devoted to the memory of the struggle waged by the Luxembourg people during the occupation from 1940 to 1945; on this occasion, several ceremonies will be held in Luxembourg during Tuesday.
Ceremony at the National Monument of Luxembourg Solidarity: the Grand Duke will place a wreath in front of the National Monument of Luxembourg Solidarity (Kanounenhiwwel), he will revive the flame of remembrance and he will sign the guestbook inside the monument. Outside the monument, he will meet with representatives of the various organisations atrending.
Afterwards, a wreath will be laid in front of the memorial monument in place of the Constitution by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mars Di Bartolomeo, Prime Minister, Minister of State Xavier Bettel, and Mayor of the City of Luxembourg Lydie Polfer, in the presence of Secretary of State for Defense Francine Closener of the Chief of Staff of the Luxembourg Army, General Alain Duschène, and the Director General of the Grand-Ducal Police, Philippe Schrantz.
Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, will deliver a speech at the National Monument of the Resistance and the Deportation (Hinzerter Kräiz) in Limpertsberg. Representative of the main religions in Luxemourg will then bless the tomb at the National Monument of Resistance and Deportation, including from the Catholic Church, Abbé Jean Ehret, the Grand Rabbi of Luxembourg, Alain Nacache, and the pastor of the Luxembourg Protestant Church, Volker Strauß. Mars Di Bartolomeo, Xavier Bettel and Lydie Polfer are to lay wreaths there.
At 17:00, a commemoration and memorial ceremony will take place at at the Conservatoire of the Ville de Luxembourg, in the presence of members of the government, the Council of State and members of the judiciary, the diplomatic corps accredited to HRH the Grand Duke, the municipal council, mayors from throughout the country, etc. The programme will feature speeches, a musical accompaniment by the Conservatoire Quartet, and the award of honorary decorations, including the Cross of the Resistance, a posthumous award.
