The Luxembourg City Tourist Office 8LCTO) has confirmed that, although overall tourist numbers to the LCTO information office on Place Guillaume II, the total number of visitors to the Bock Casemates has continued to rise.
For the period January to August, 106,559 tourists visited the Bock Casemates, compared to 101,360 for the same period in 2016 and 99,352 in 2015; part of this reason is that the city's top tourist attraction opened earlier this season that in previous years. For guided tours, though, the numbers stagnated for the same 8-month period in 2017 (4,741), compared to 4,736 in 2016, and below the record 4,965 in 2015.
And from a high of 199,555 tourists visiting the LCTO information offices on Place Guillaume II in 2015 (Jan-Aug), the 2017 figure for the same period was 136,478, also below the 2016 fugure of 159,353. 2015 is understood to have seen such high numbers due to Luxembourg chairing the Council of the European Union.
For guided tours of the Grand Ducal palace - between 15 July and 3 September - 10,617 people participated, with guided tours in Luxembourg and French the most popular.
The "Luxembourg Jackets" mobile information teams also suffered a decline in numbers for the first 8 months of this year; however, this was put down to the huge success of the Skyliner on Place de la Constitution which resulted in the diversion of a number of tourist buses from the centre parking area due to space restrictions.
