On Tuesday 10 March 2026, the Directorate General of Immigration of Luxembourg’s Ministry of Home Affairs published its monthly overview of applications for international protection and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy for February 2026.

International Protection

A total of 102 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in February 2026 (compared to 170 in February 2025 and 152 in February 2024). To date this year, Luxembourg has received 212 applications for international protection, down from 358 during the same period in 2025.

Authorities took 80 decisions on international protection applications in February 2026, granting refugee status to nine applicants.

According to the directorate, most applicants in February were Syrian (seventeen), followed by those Afghanistan (nine) and Ukraine (nine). So far in 2026, most applications have come from Syrian nationals (26), followed by Eritrean (20), Afghan (fourteen) and Algerian (fourteen) nationals.

Temporary Protection

A total of 53 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in February 2026 (down from 90 in January). So far this year, the country has received a total of 143 such applications.

Authorities took 64 decisions on temporary protection applications in February, with authorities granting this status to 42 applicants (compared to 86 in January).

Most applicants in February (51) were Ukrainian nationals, while two applicants came from other unspecified countries.

Ukrainian nationals have also represented the largest group (136) among applicants for temporary protection so far this year.
