On Monday 2 February 2026, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) and the Luxembourg Red Cross signed an operational agreement to strengthen civil protection and emergency medical assistance services.
The new agreement will allow the Luxembourg Red Cross, as an approved rescue organisation (“organisme de secours agréé” - OSA), to intervene at the request of the CGDIS to reinforce operations during exceptional situations or periods of increased operational pressure in emergency medical assistance.
The agreement covers three key areas of emergency medical assistance:
-
planned emergency response arrangements and securing major events, where the Luxembourg Red Cross may support or replace the CGDIS, in particular during large-scale sporting, cultural or public events;
-
secondary patient transfers, allowing the CGDIS to call on the Luxembourg Red Cross to carry out transfers between hospital facilities within the country or abroad;
-
support in exceptional situations, where the Luxembourg Red Cross may reinforce the CGDIS’s operational resources during large-scale interventions, major crises or ambulance shortages.
The authorities noted that signing of this operational agreement forms part of their ongoing efforts to improve the operational response of emergency services in Luxembourg, reflecting the shared commitment of all stakeholders to provide the public with a faster, more effective and more resilient emergency response.
