The Grand Ducal Police have reported that two driving licences were revoked on Sunday 18 January 2026, following drink-driving incidents near Esch-sur-Alzette and in Niederkorn.

According to the initial information,  at around 02:00 on Sunday, a police patrol on the A4 motorway in the direction of Esch-sur-Alzette, near Pontpierre, was overtaken by another vehicle travelling at a speed exceeding the permitted limit.

The officers pursued the vehicle and repeatedly signalled the driver to stop. However, the driver continued on his way. After additional police patrols joined the operation, the fleeing vehicle was stopped in the Micheville tunnel. During the check, it was established that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. His driving licence was subsequently confiscated and a report was filed.

Then, at approximately around 20:55 on Sunday evening, police officers checked a vehicle in Niederkorn which had been following the car in front too closely. The check revealed that the vehicle’s roadworthiness inspection had expired and that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. As a result, his driving licence was confiscated.

Furthermore, during a traffic check at around 19:30 on Sunday in Dudelange, the police encountered a driver who was visibly intoxicated. An alcohol test was administered and returned a positive result. The officers prohibited the driver from continuing his journey.
