The Grand Ducal Police have reported that they responded to several incidents over the weekend of Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 January 2026 across Luxembourg, including violent thefts, drug-related offences, domestic violence, drink driving and a special unit deployment.

At around 10:15 on Saturday 3 January, police were alerted to two suspected shoplifters at a shopping centre in Luxembourg-Kirchberg. According to initial information, the suspects attempted to steal three jackets but were caught by security staff and held until officers arrived. The individuals were subjected to identity checks and a report was filed.

Later that morning, at around 11:50, police were called to a case of domestic violence between spouses in Luxembourg-Cents. A patrol attended the scene and, on the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, an expulsion order was issued.

At around 18:15 on Saturday evening, officers were dispatched to Esch-sur-Alzette following reports of damage to the entrance door of a multi-family residential building. Police subsequently located the suspected perpetrator at his apartment, where drug paraphernalia and several drug users known to the police were found. During the checks, one individual attempted to flee and had to be restrained. All those involved were taken to the police station for further procedures. A house search led to the discovery of additional illegal substances. On the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, one person was arrested, brought before an investigating judge on Sunday morning, and all narcotics were seized.

Later that evening, at around 20:00, police were alerted to a person harassing a young girl at Bettembourg railway station. Officers found the suspect on site, already restrained by security staff. According to initial information, the individual had approached the girl on a train and later in the station waiting area, attempting to touch her. Following a medical examination, and after confirming that a police alert was already in place, the suspect was taken to the CPL in Schrassig.

In the early hours of Sunday 4 January, at around 01:00, a violent theft was reported in Grand-Rue in Luxembourg City, where an unknown individual snatched a gold necklace from a passer-by before fleeing in an unknown direction. An investigation has been launched.

Shortly afterwards, at around 03:30, a police patrol on Route de Longwy in Redange stopped a vehicle that was being driven erratically, failed to stop at a stop sign and did not indicate. The driver behaved provocatively and uncooperatively during the checks. A breathalyser test returned a positive result, and the driving licence was confiscated.

At around 07:00 on Sunday morning, police were called to the Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch in Esch-sur-Alzette following reports of an aggressive individual shouting in the waiting area. The visibly intoxicated person initially complied with officers’ instructions to leave the premises but returned shortly afterwards. Due to the individual’s condition and disturbance of public order, they were taken into custody and a report was drawn up.

Later that afternoon, police were alerted to a person who had barricaded themselves inside their home in Frisingen. The police special unit, supported by a negotiation team, was deployed to the scene. The operation was concluded successfully at around 15:15 without any injuries.
