On Friday 19 December 2025, the dam water union of Esch-sur-Sûre (Syndicat des eaux du barrage d’Esch-sur-Sûre – SEBES) and the Intermunicipal Syndicate for Water Distribution in the Eastern Region (SIDERE) officially inaugurated the “Kackeschbësch” project, comprising a new drinking water reservoir and an energy recovery turbine, located along the N2 road between Sandweiler and Moutfort.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, Minister of Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, and Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes.

The reservoir, known as “Kackeschbësch”, consists of two tanks with a capacity of 1,000 m³ each and is one of SIDERE’s most important water reservoirs. Supplied by SEBES from its treatment plant in Eschdorf, the reservoir plays a strategic role in ensuring the drinking water supply for the eastern part of the country, managed by SIDERE.

According to SEBES and SIDERE, the site is equipped with an asynchronous energy recovery turbine, the Multitec V 100/8-8.1 15.167, which harnesses the hydraulic pressure between the Eschdorf reservoir and the “Kackeschbësch” reservoir. Its performance can reach up to 70 kW of power, with a flow rate of 145 m³/h and a pressure of 21 bar. The total cost of the project amounts to €2,000,000.
