On Tuesday 2 December 2025, the Luxembourg Centre for Architecture (LUCA) issued an official response to the decision of the Differdange City Council to take legal action in relation to the classification of the Marcel Noppeney Centre as a national cultural property.
In a press release, they said: “LUCA unequivocally condemns the decision of the Differdange City Council to take legal action against the Minister for Culture, Mr Eric Thill, aiming to annul the classification of the Marcel Noppeney Centre as a national cultural property”.
LUCA, which supports and promotes initiatives to preserve both cultural and natural heritage in Luxembourg, added that the Marcel Noppeney Centre in Differdange stands as “an outstanding example of brutalist architecture in Luxembourg, a major movement of the twentieth century” and that its loss would represent “an immeasurable blow to Luxembourg’s cultural heritage”.
They added: “This decision contradicts the advice given by the experts of the Commission for Cultural Heritage (COPAC) and runs counter to the public interest. LUCA fully supports the decision to classify this building as a national cultural property and hopes that the communal council will reconsider its decision.”
