Number of applicants for international protection;

On Friday 14 November 2025, Luxembourg’s Directorate of Immigration (Ministry of Home Affairs) published the latest figures on applications for international protection and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy for October 2025.
International Protection
A total of 184 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in October 2025 (compared to 154 in September 2025 and 254 in October 2024). To date this year, Luxembourg has received 1,516 applications for international protection, down from 1,562 during the first ten months of 2024.
According to the Directorate, the largest groups of applicants in October were nationals of Eritrea (27), Syria (18), Somalia and Sudan (twelve each), Venezuela (ten), Afghanistan and Algeria (nine each), Iraq (eight) and Turkey and Ukraine (seven each).
Regarding cumulative figures for 2025 up to 31 October, most applicants have come from Eritrea (286), followed by Syria (176), Algeria (82), Venezuela (74), Afghanistan (70) and Turkey (66). Other significant groups included nationals of Colombia (56), Somalia (52), Morocco (44) and Ukraine (41).
Temporary Protection
In October 2025, a total of 125 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg (compared to 123 in September). Since January, the country has registered 958 applications for this status.
The Directorate reported that in October, the vast majority of applicants were Ukrainian nationals (114), with eleven applicants coming from other unspecified countries.
Year-to-date figures show that Ukrainian nationals accounted for 881 applications, representing 92% of all requests. Other applicants included nationals of Algeria (23), Morocco (eight), Armenia (seven), India (five) and 34 people from other countries.
