On Monday 8 September 2025, the severe weather risk assessment unit (CERI) convened in light of the orange alert for heavy rainfall issued for the evening and overnight into the morning of Tuesday 9 September 2025.

The warning applies to the entire country, with a particular focus on the south and east, and will remain in effect from 22:00 on Monday until 08:00 on Tuesday.

According to CERI, continuous rainfall is expected during this period, with totals estimated between 25 and 50 l/m², locally reaching up to 70 to 80 l/m². The peak intensity is forecast during the night from Monday to Tuesday, with an increased risk of flooding, particularly along the Alzette and in areas bordering smaller watercourses in the south and east of the country. The flood forecasting service of AGE is closely monitoring developments and expects to downgrade the alert to yellow in the early afternoon on Monday.

Authorities have called on citizens to remain vigilant, especially in camping areas located near rivers and streams. The public is advised to follow regular updates on weather forecasts via www.meteolux.lu and consult the heavy rainfall hazard maps on www.map.geoportail.lu to verify if their location is affected.

The CERI will meet again on Monday afternoon to reassess the situation.
