
On Thursday 24 April 2025, Luxembourg's Customs and Excise Administration confirmed that their agents have uncovered a cache of 42 kg of marijuana during a routine truck inspection using mobile X-ray scanning equipment and sniffer dogs.
While inspecting a truck arriving from abroad, which was transporting a large number of parcels and boxes, customs officials noticed a suspicious structure on the X-ray images. They unloaded the affected crate opened it for further inspection, whereupon their their suspicions were confirmed: a large quantity of marijuana (38 kg) was found inside the packaging.
To ensure that there were no other drugs in the remaining cargo, drug-sniffer dog Balto was called in. Shortly thereafter, the experienced sniffer dog pointed to another crate, in which another four kilograms of marijuana were found during the subsequent inspection. In total, 42 kilograms of the prohibited substance was seized.
A detailed report was drawn up, and the Luxembourg Public Prosecutor's Office was informed of the incident. The Public Prosecutor's Office ordered the seizure of the drugs. Investigations into the origin and intended recipient of the shipment are currently ongoing.
The Luxembourg Customs Administration acknowledged the effectiveness of modern control technology combined with specially trained sniffer dogs in the fight against illegal drug trafficking.
