The Grand Ducal Police have announced that they are taking part once again in the pan-European road safety "Speed" campaign.

This year's "Speed" campaign will take place from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 April 2025. Organised by Roadpol, the network of European traffic police forces, this campaign is part of the fight against excessive speed, the leading cause of road deaths in Europe and a trigger and aggravating factor in accidents. Police checks will thus focus specifically on road user speed during this period.

As part of this campaign, the Grand Ducal Police will also participate in the 2025 edition of the "Speedmarathon" operation, which will take place on Wednesday 9 April 2025. As part of this initiative, the police will conduct numerous speed checks throughout the country over a 24-hour period (midnight to midnight), especially during rush hour.

The operation is taking place at the European level, in many countries, under the supervision of Roadpol.

The police noted that the "Speedmarathon" aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of speeding with a view to preventing road accidents. As such, the operation will be widely covered on the police's social media channels, offering information about the latest checks, but also prevention messages and photo reports.

To increase the opportunities for interaction and thus broaden the reach of the awareness campaign, members of the public will have the opportunity to vote for potential checkpoint locations to be carried out as part of the "Speedmarathon". On Friday 4 April 2025, social media users will have the opportunity to choose between two possible locations per police region (North, Southwest, Centre-East, Capital) on the @policelux Instagram account. Subsequently, and depending on patrol availability, the checkpoints will be integrated into the operation's planning.
