On Wednesday 5 Febriaty 2025, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, had a bilateral meeting with the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alan Simonyan, as part of his official visit to Luxembourg.

According to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Foreign Trade, the meeting was an opportunity to review bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Armenia. Minister Bettel highlighted the excellence of bilateral relations and recalled that the opening of a diplomatic office of Armenia in the Grand Duchy a year ago has made it possible to intensify exchanges on political and economic issues. Regarding the security situation in the South Caucasus, Minister Bettel reaffirmed that Luxembourg continues to advocate for a peaceful and negotiated resolution of all disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both parties.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss relations between Armenia and the European Union, as well as the new EU-Armenia Strategic Partnership Programme, which aims to strengthen sectoral cooperation in key areas such as connectivity, energy and trade diversification. President Simonyan thanked Luxembourg for its participation in the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA), which currently includes a Luxembourg police officer.

Finally, the two interlocutors also discussed Luxembourg's presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
