The Grand Ducal Police has reported that they, in cooperation with the Customs and Excise Administration, the Trade and Mines Inspectorate (ITM) and the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA), carried out a large-scale inspection in several grocery stores in Esch-Alzette on Wednesday 15 January 2025.

A total of fourteen grocery stores were inspected. One store was temporarily closed due to poor hygiene and in five cases around 300 kg of food had to be disposed of by the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration.

A number of stores were asked to comply with food regulations: the implementation of the regulations will be checked again at a later date.

In addition, around 50 kg of shisha tobacco were confiscated by the Customs and Excise Administration.

In two cases, the ITM opened an investigation for undeclared work and in one case for illegal employment.

Also, two fines were issued for missing price labels and one of the people checked during these checks was flagged.
