The Grand Ducal Police have confirmed an increased police presence for New Year's Eve.

As at the end of every year, the police are increasing their presence to ensure they can "best handle the requested and necessary interventions". The twelve police stations across the country operating 24 hours a day will also do so on the night of Tuesday 31 December 2024 to Wednesday 1 January 2025.

For all emergencies requiring police intervention, the emergency call number 113 is available to the public.

Given that New Year's Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year, the police said they would respond to the many calls regarding noise pollution caused by celebrations or fireworks "according to their availability and priorities". The police have called on members of the public to respect those who do not wish to or cannot celebrate and on others to show a "certain tolerance" towards those who are celebrating.

The police noted that end-of-year festivities (and other events involving lots of people) risk attracting "dishonest" people, particularly pickpockets. As such, the police have recommended that people celebrating be particularly careful:

  • during an event, pay attention to your belongings and bags and do not leave them lying around;
  • be careful when in a crowd (e.g. in queues);
  • keep your wallet in the inside pocket of your jacket, which is less easily accessible to thieves than other pockets;
  • avoid physical contact with strangers - cunning thieves try to approach their victims by jostling them or dancing, in order to steal their wallet or mobile phone;
  • alcohol is one of the main factors in serious accidents - do not drink and drive;
  • make sure that no one can access your drinks to prevent anyone from introducing unwanted substances into them;
  • report suspicious people or objects to the police emergency number 113 and follow the instructions of the officers.
