The Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs has published figures regarding applications for international protection (asylum) and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy in October 2024.
International protection
A total of 252 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in October 2024 (compared to 177 in September 2024 and 295 in October 2023). To date this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 1,559 applications for international protection - down from 2,035 received during the same period in 2023.
155 decisions on asylum applications were taken in October, with 50 applicants being granted refugee status (74 in September).
So far in 2024, most applications have come from Eritrean nationals (339), followed by Syrian (207), Turkish (86), Venezulean (77) and Colombian (76) nationals.
Temporary protection
A total of 93 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in October 2024 (up from 73 in September). So far this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 779 such applications.
A total of 90 decisions on temporary protection applications were taken in October, with 84 applicants being granted this status in Luxembourg (57 in September); six were rejected.
Most applicants in October (87) were Ukrainian nationals. Ukrainians have also represented the largest group (708) among applicants for temporary protection so far this year. There have also been applications from fourteen Algerian, eight Moroccan, six Turkish and five Indian nationals, as well as 38 nationals of other unspecified countries during this period.
