The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a man drowned in the Moselle river in Grevenmacher on Thursday 29 August 2024.

On Thursday afternoon, witnesses informed the police that a man had not returned to the bank after swimming in the Moselle in Grevenmacher.

A search operation was immediately launched, involving several police patrols, rescue teams and rescue divers, the police helicopter and emergency services from Germany.

A police diver recovered the man's body from the Moselle in Grevenmacher shortly afterwards. Despite resuscitation attempts, the man was already dead.

The public prosecutor's office was informed and requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The police forensics team was tasked with further investigations.
