On Tuesday 6 February 2024, the first meeting of the new Intercultural Living Together Committee (Commission consultative du vivre-ensemble interculturel) took place at the City Hall in Luxembourg-Ville.
The commission’s president, Corinne Cahen, warmly welcomed the eighteen members for the first time and thanked them all for their commitment: “As alderwoman in charge of integration in the City of Luxembourg, I am extremely satisfied with the great interest that this new committee has awakened among residents and people working in the capital's territory, as well as the many interesting applications that the aldermen’s college has received for the 18 vacancies. With this very diverse team, we will analyse and address the problems encountered in our society and seek future-oriented solutions, particularly in terms of integration and inclusion.”
In total, after the college of aldermen of the City of Luxembourg called on interested people who reside or work in the territory of the capital to apply to become a member of the Intercultural Living Together Committee in autumn 2023, 115 people came forward, among whom the following members were appointed during the municipal council meeting of 11 December 2023: Mr Henry Abner Surpless, Mr Ernad Rafetov Agovic. Ms Alexandra Renault, Mr Joshi Bhanu, Ms Liudmila Cande Giovani Branca, Ms Claire Courquin-Geier, Ms Camilla Cuppini, Ms Carisa Delgado Dias. Ms Annelore Dewulf, Ms Crina Enita, Mr Martin Kracheel, Mr Jean-Dominique Montoisy, Ms Mai-Anh Nguyen, Ms Dominique Riefstahl, Ms Claudia Schleret, Mr José Trindade, Mr Ricky Wong, Ms Laura Zuccoli.
The main missions of the advisory commission, which will carry out its missions in close consultation with the college of the mayor and aldermen, are:
• identification of priorities and possible obstacles encountered in the area of intercultural living together at the municipal level;
• assistance from the municipality in the development and implementation of measures and activities promoting intercultural living together at the municipal level;
• promoting access to information, citizen participation and community life;
• encouraging dialogue, intercultural exchange and mutual understanding between all residents of the municipality;
• respect for the values of intercultural living together and in particular awareness-raising and the implementation of measures to combat racism and all forms of discrimination at the municipal level;
• the election of municipal representatives of the higher council for intercultural living together.
