On Friday 2 February 2024, the college of the mayor and aldermen (Collège des bourgmestre et échevins) received the children of cycle 1 of the Rollingergrund primary school at the Hotel de Ville in Luxembourg City on the occasion of the traditional "Liichtmëssdag".

Every year in the early evening of 2 February, children in Luxembourg go door to door in their neighbourhoods carrying colourful lanterns or "Liichtebengelcher" in Luxembourgish. They sing the traditional "Léiwer Härgottsblieschen" song in exchange for sweets and money.

The origins of this tradition are ancient, dating to the pre-Christian era. Nowadays, however, Liichtmëssdag is associated with Saint Blaise, whose Feast Day is observed on 3 February.
