On Saturday 27 January 2024, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) confirmed that the fire that broke out at the town hall in Junglinster one day earlier has been fully extinguished after a 36-hour intervention.

By the end of the day on Friday 26 January 2024, 90 firefighters had managed to stabilise the situation but were unable to fully put out the fire, namely in the inaccessible archives section due to the debris covering them. Throughout the night, a team of 20 firefighters remained on-site to prevent the fire from reigniting.

As of Saturday morning, the firefighters' clearing work continued using an excavator to extinguish residual hot spots. The fire was declared extinguished at 13:00 on Saturday and the CGDIS measures were lifted.

A total of 130 volunteer and professional firefighters took turns to put out what the CGDIS described as an "exceptionally complex" fire. Throughout their efforts, they were supported by the operational technological support group with a specialised drone as well as the logistics support centre.
