On Saturday 25 November 2023, Luxembourg's Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity reported that Yuriko Backes, Minister of Gender Equality and Diversity, participated in the solidarity march in Ettelbruck organised by the National Council of Women of Luxembourg (CNFL) to mark the international day for the elimination violence against women and Orange Week.

Minister Backes thanked the team in charge of the organisation for their commitment and praised the activities linked to Orange Week which aims to raise public awareness on this subject and show solidarity with victims.

During her speech, the minister emphasised that violence has many faces and that her position is very clear: Zero tolerance for violence against women and girls, zero tolerance for gender-based violence or related to sexual orientation, thus underlining the ministry's commitment to waging this fight on a daily basis.

She also announced that the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity will develop, together with a range of key stakeholders, a strategy on the fight against all forms of violence based on gender and sexual orientation, thereby honouring its new mission to promote and protect diversity in these areas.

Orange Week will continue until 10 December, Human Rights Day, and will be marked by a multitude of cultural, educational and artistic events. For details, click here.

The ministry building will be lit in orange until this date.
