On Thursday 3 August 2023, Luxembourg's national statistical office, STATEC, published a 52-page document on "Tourism in Figures".

The publication is presented as a statistical directory of tourism. The figures presented concern tourism in Luxembourg and the tourist practices of residents. The vast majority of statistical data was collected and compiled by STATEC through two surveys: the tourism survey and the survey on arrivals and overnight stays in accommodation establishments. The other sources used and compiled by STATEC are the tourism satellite accounts which are based on national accounts, the balance of payments and credit card data.

How many trips do we make each year? What are the most popular destinations? How much does a stay cost?

In 2022, residents took 2.6 million leisure trips and 323,000 business trips, spending on average 36 nights away regarding the former and 5 nights away regarding the latter. European destinations accounted for 93% of leisure trips (where 25% were close by) and 92% of business trips (where 50% were to neighbouring countries). The cost/night away amounted to €163 on average for leisure trips and €358 for business trips.
