On Monday 12 June 2023, the Luxembourg Red Cross has issued a call for people across the Grand Duchy, even those with the most modest households, to show solidarity with those who are struggling to find housing.
While it is becoming more and more difficult to house people in need, “There are solutions and guarantees for landlords who wish to show solidarity with those who are struggling to find housing. At the Luxembourg Red Cross, it is important to us to make them known,” explained Frédérik Noël, head of the organisation’s Solidarity Support Housing Unit (CLES).
Simple solutions and guarantees
Indeed, two main systems, the “Red Cross guarantees” as well as social rental management, have many advantages for owners wishing to show solidarity.
It is possible to rent one's property directly to Luxembourg Red Cross beneficiaries: the Luxembourg Red Cross can act as guarantor under certain conditions (more information is available on request by email: logement@croix-rouge.lu)
As an alternative to rental guarantees, there is also the option of renting one's property to the Luxembourg Red Cross as part of social rental management. For more information on this system (guaranteed rent, tax advantages, availability and maintenance of the property) is available online at https://logement.public.lu/fr/proprietaire/logement-location/gestion-locative-sociale.html
An ever-increasing need for housing
"Precariousness is increasing and it is vital for our beneficiaries, parents raising their children alone, families living close to or below the poverty line, or even migrants who have arrived in Luxembourg after difficult ordeals, to manage to find housing" continued Frederik Noël.
The Cellule Logement Encadrement Solidaire (CLES) is making every effort to prevent the most vulnerable people from falling into homelessness. For more information or to offer one's accommodation, see https://www.croix-rouge.lu/fr/service/cellule-logement-pour-loger-les-plus-defavorises/
