Luxembourg's Prison Administration has announced that a prisoner was found dead in his cell at Schrassig Prison on Monday evening.
Prison officers reportedly found the lifeless prisoner in his cell at around 20:15 on Monday 1 May 2023.
The judicial authorities have been informed and an autopsy has been ordered. The Prison Administration assured that the deceased's family members would be notified of his death.
The Ombudsman in her capacity as external controller of places of deprivation of liberty, the director of the Prison Administration, a representative of the director of Schrassig Prison (Centre Pénitentiaire de Luxembourg), the Grand Ducal Police and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) were on the scene.
