On Wednesday 5 April 2024, the Luxembourg Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development announced that preventive measures concerning the avian flu are to be lifted, while biosecurity rules are to be maintained.
According to the ministry, due to the favourable evolution of the situation with regard to avian flu in Luxembourg, the special preventive measures which had been put in place at the end of 2022 will be lifted starting from 10 April 2023.
Nevertheless, as the risk of introduction of the bird flu virus into poultry flocks persists, the ministry stresses the need to respect biosecurity rules scrupulously, and to report any abnormal mortality in a flock to a veterinarian or to the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) immediately. (tel: 247-82539, e-mail: info@alva.etat.lu).
According to the regulations in force, any gathering of poultry (exhibition, market) must be notified to the ALVA.
