The Luxembourg Public Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that the victim of a knife attack, which occurred in Petange on Tuesday 29 November 2022, has passed away as a result of his injuries.

At around 05:45 on Tuesday, a 29-year-old man was attacked with a knife on Rue d'Athus in Petange, not far from his home. The attacker immediately fled the scene and a manhunt ensued. The road in question was closed to traffic during the police operation and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Public Prosecutor's Office subsequently initiated an investigation into attempted murder or attempted manslaughter and entrusted the investigating judge with the further investigations.

The 70-year-old suspect, who is the father of the victim, turned himself in to the police that same day, in the afternoon. On Wednesday 30 November 2022, the suspect presented himself to the investigating judge and was placed in custody.

The victim of the knife attack died late in the afternoon.

The prosecution recalled that any person subject to an investigation or criminal proceedings is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final decision of the competent trial court.
