On Wednesday 19 October 2022, Luxembourg's Minister of Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, met the representatives of the National Council of Women of Luxembourg (Conseil national des femmes du Luxembourg - CNFL) for the autumn 2022/2023 academic year.

Among the points raised were the creation of the Observatory of Equality, the principle of zero tolerance in domestic violence and efforts to increase the rate of women in politics.

Minister Bofferding explained that the Ministry's Equality Observatory will provide the means to identify any weak points and then act in a targeted and effective manner. The downward trend in the figures on domestic violence demonstrates the effectiveness of the intervention chain and the cooperation of the various actors in the field. “We will continue our policy of zero tolerance towards violence and will extend it to other new and more subtle forms of violence,” Minister Bofferding said. Thus, the Ministry launched in November, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, a broad information and awareness campaign on sexism.

At the national level and under the motto life equality (Égalitéit liewen), the ministry supports the municipalities in their efforts to enthuse more women for the political scene. “It is only in a joint effort between the municipalities and the ministry that women will occupy the place in politics that they deserve”, underlined Minister Bofferding. Finally, according to the ministry, recent studies have shown that any crisis has a different impact on the sexes and thus risks amplifying inequalities. “It is therefore essential to take the gender dimension into account from the start in all promising decisions to make effective crisis resilience possible.”
