Luxembourg's Ministry of the Interior and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) have released a statement aimed at informing new arrivals from Ukraine of the monthly testing of the Grand Duchy's siren network.

On the first Monday of every month, the emergency services test the network of sirens installed across Luxembourg. The objective of these regular tests is to guarantee the functionality of this means of alerting the population, for example in the event of a nuclear alert. In order to guarantee that the population is resilient in the face of the exceptional risks that could affect Luxembourg, the ministries deemed it necessary to continue to carry out such tests in the future.

Since the start of the armed conflict in Ukraine, several thousand refugees from combat zones have found refuge in the Grand Duchy. The ministries noted that, for these people, the sound of the siren test could lead to an increased stress situation if they are not informed beforehand.

As such, the Ministry of the Interior and the CGDIS are collaborating with the National Reception Office (Office national de l'accueil - ONA), the Luxembourg Red Cross, Caritas Luxembourg and LUkraine asbl to transmit this information to Ukrainian refugees.

The ministries have also launched an appeal to host families to inform their Ukrainian guests of the nature of these tests and the fact that they will continue to take place.
