On Thursday 24 March 2022, more than 200 people attended the information evening organised by Luxembourg's Ministry of Housing, together with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, the Ville de Dudelange and the Housing Fund, concerning the new NeiSchmelz district and mobility in Dudelange at the Opderschmelz Cultural Centre.

The public evening was introduced by Dan Biancalana, the Mayor of the Dudelange, who presented various cultural, social and economic projects of a transitional and permanent nature, which have taken place on the site since the closure of factories in 2005.

Housing Minister Henri Kox and Culture Minister Sam Tanson outlined the key elements of the housing and culture project. In NeiSchmelz, 1,575 affordable housing units on 33 hectare will be created on former industrial wasteland. The two bills for the realisation of the first phase of the new residential area will receive a state participation of €507 million.

The site will house the future National Centre for Public Collections (Centre national des collections publiques - CNCP). The construction of NeiSchmelz is carried out by the public developer Housing Fund. Its director Jacques Vandivinit presented the technical elements and, in particular, the challenges that arise for a construction site of this size in the centre of the Dudelange.

The second part of the evening was dedicated to mobility challenges in Dudelange. François Bausch, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mobility and Public Works, presented the multimodal concept of future mobility in Dudelange and announced the commissioning of a fast train, departing every 30 minutes from all the stations in  Dudelange, towards Luxembourg city and the North, from 2028.
