Luxembourg's Customs and Excise Agency (Administration des douanes et accises - ADA) has warned the public of scam text messages currently in circulation.
The Customs and Excise Agency said it had been contacted recently by many individuals having received an SMS informing them that a shipment intended for them was blocked by customs. In order to release said package, they are invited to pay a fee. This text message comes from a sender identifying him/herself as "Douane" (customs).
The Customs and Excise Agency advised the public that it never sends messages to recipients of packages inviting them to pay customs duties.
In the meantime, customs has lodged a complaint with the Grand Ducal Police. The latter also advised anyone having responded to such messages to lodge a complaint with them.
