On Saturday 8 January 2022, the Grand Ducal Police reported that the Luxembourg Army had successfully defused a WWII mortar shell that had been discovered in Wiltz.
The explosive device was neutralised by the army's Service de Déminage (SEDAL) at around midday in the vicinity of the Salzbaach industrial park along the N26 in Wiltz.
The surrounding streets were closed to traffic until 12:30.
An investigation has been launched to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
