Luxembourg's Ministry of Equality between Women and Men has announced that it is launching, together with the "Riicht Eraus" service of the Luxembourg Red Cross, a domestic violence prevention campaign in October and November 2021.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage perpetrators of violence to take responsibility, becoming aware of their violence and understanding that it cannot be tolerated.

"No one should suffer from domestic violence, verbal, sexual or physical attacks", stressed Taina Bofferding, Luxembourg's Minister of Equality between Women and Men. “I want to step up actions to act at an early stage and end the spirals of violence. I am convinced that providing good support for perpetrators is one of the keys to better protect victims. Because fewer violent people also means less domestic violence”.

Perpetrators of violence are thus invited to contact the Riicht Eraus service, where they will be put in touch with a counselor; talking is thought to be able to help them move forward and become aware of the need to change their behaviour.

"For perpetrators of domestic violence, consulting the Riicht Eraus team is a way out of the infernal spiral of violence", explained Michel Simonis, Director General of the Luxembourg Red Cross. “In collaboration with the Ministry of Equality between Women and Men, we are launching this prevention campaign against domestic violence to encourage perpetrators of domestic violence to become aware of their behaviour, without judgment on our part, and to take responsibility for a change in behaviour”.

Laurence Bouquet, Director of Riicht Eraus, added: “We have decided to launch this prevention campaign now, because for a year and a half we have been living in an exceptional situation which can generate tensions within the home. Although we have always been present during the health crisis, we believe it is necessary to remind the general public that we are there to prevent these tensions from coming out explosively”.

Since its creation in 2004, the mission of Riicht Eraus has been to support and advise perpetrators suspected or convicted of domestic violence. All clients have the option of attending consultations during which they receive advice on how to change their behaviour.

Anyone wishing to receive such help can contact the service via tel.: 2755-5800 or via email: riichteraus@croix-rouge.lu.
