On Wednesday 22 September 2021, Luxembourg's Minister for Tourism, Lex Delles, presented the results of the 2021 tourism season.

According to data from the national statistics institute STATEC, hotel stays were up 14% in the first six months of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020. Campsite stays were up 68% over one year.

The national tourism board Luxembourg for Tourism (LFT) noted that rural regions were especially benefiting from strong demand for nature and outdoor stays, while urban tourism remained more strongly impacted by the pandemic.

"It should be noted that the Grand Duchy as a tourist destination is showing dynamism and is moving towards a recovery", explained Minister Lex Delles. "Thanks to various innovative tourism projects grouped together under the 'Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz' campaign, leisure tourism has been enhanced, which in particular has attracted a good number of residents”.

The 2021 edition of “Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz” targeted residents of the Grand Duchy, cross-border workers as well as foreign tourists in order to raise awareness of tourist attractions in Luxembourg. Highlights included the "Guide for one day" initiative, which saw 1,081 people participate in 172 guided tours, and 40 projects registered for the "Luxembourg Tourism Awards". In addition, the VisitLuxembourg application was downloaded 16,267 times.

Regarding the €50 accommodation voucher scheme, 140,546 vouchers were redeemed at 265 accommodation structures, thus injecting €7,027,300 into the sector. LFT estimated that the share of the resident clientele in hotels was 20% for the month of July and 17% for the month of August 2021, which corresponds to an increase compared to July and August 2019 (10%) and a slight decrease compared to the summer of 2020 (25%).

Overall, the Minister for Tourism described the results of the 2021 tourism season as "very positive". He added: "The year 2021 shows that interest in Luxembourg as a tourist destination remains substantial, especially among residents. The tourism sector has succeeded in consolidating its competitiveness thanks to its innovative spirit".
