Luxembourg non-profit association Inter-Actions and the Ministry for Equality between Women and Men have signed an agreement to develop a training programme as part of the fight against domestic violence.

The fight against domestic violence requires a multidimensional approach, which not only focusses on the victims, but also includes working with perpetrators of such violence. As such, this new training programme, called “Ee Schrëtt géint Gewalt” (a step against violence), is intended for perpetrators of domestic violence in Luxembourg.

During the signing of the agreement at the Equality Ministry, Luxembourg's Minister for Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, stated: "I welcome the willingness of Inter-Actions managers to expand their training offer and target the perpetrators of domestic violence through their new project. Alongside the protection of victims, awareness-raising and prevention campaigns, working with perpetrators is an essential pillar in the fight against domestic violence".

The development of this new training programme will be done in close consultation with other players in the field, in particular the Riicht Eraus service of the Luxembourg Red Cross, which remains the main approved service offering support to adult perpetrators of domestic violence.

The programme is expected to last 80 hours with the possibility of extending it according to the needs and profiles of the perpetrators over ten weeks. The participants will be equipped to learn to control and overcome their violent behaviour and to realise their responsibility and the consequences of their acts. This will be done through a variety of techniques and practical exercises through role play and discussion. The programme is open to all perpetrators of domestic violence.
