The Grand Ducal Police have reported that, on Monday 25 January 2021 in the afternoon, an incident took place at a bus stop near a sports and cultural centre in Kirchberg in which a bus driver was threatened with a gun.
The bus driver was approached by a young man and was asked for a cigarette.
Immediately a second person came along and threatened the bus driver with a pistol after he refused to give the young man a cigarette. The bus driver quickly managed to climb aboard his bus and informed the police, whereupon the two young men ran away in the direction of Rue Alcide de Gasperi.
As a result of the search involving several police patrols, the suspects were found at a bus stop in Rue du Fort Niedergrünewald on the basis of the descriptions provided by the bus driver.
The pistol used turned out to be an air pistol: it was found behind the bus stop and was confiscated. Among other things, one of the two people was found to be also carrying a knife which is listed as an illegal weapon.
Criminal charges were filed against both men who were allowed to leave the police station after all administrative bureaucracy had been undertaken.
