Luxembourg's Minister for the Greater Region Corinne Cahen and French Secretary of State for European Affairs Amélie de Montchalin yesterday co-chaired a video conference meeting dedicated to the bilateral coordination of lockdown exit stategies.
The meeting, held in the presence of Grand Est President Jean Rottner, followed the Luxembourg Minister and French Secretary of State's telephone interview on 28 April 2020.
On Tuesday, the video conference participants highlighted their common desire to coordinate lockdown exit strategies in France and Luxembourg. Several cross-border subjects were raised, such as health measures, economic recovery and cross-border work, access to schools and universities on both sides of the border, social and family life, shops, mobility and transport.
Ministers Cahen and de Montchalin agreed to continue this close cooperation for the benefit of border regions in the coming days, in particular by specifying the concrete coordination measures (particularly with regard to health) taken jointly by Luxembourg and France and by communicating together on these issues. This cooperation will be carried out in conjunction with local elected officials from the Grand Est region. In their capacity as Chairpersons of the Franco-Luxembourg Intergovernmental Commission for the Reinforcement of Cross-Border Cooperation (Commission intergouvernementale franco-luxembourgeoise pour le renforcement de la coopération transfrontalière, CIG), the two ministers also agreed on the objective of organising the next meeting of this intergovernmental commission in autumn 2020.
