In a statement addressed to the government on Saturday, Luxembourg's Chamber of Trades proposed the reopening of all artisanal and craft businesses on 11 May 2020, in accordance with the appropriate hygiene measures.
The Chamber asserted that, with the reopening of construction sites on 20 April, "an important first stage" had been implemented but that it was now time to give the "green light" to all craft businesses, such as hairdressers, beauty salons and bakeries.
To facilitate a safe reopening of such businesses in the near future, the Chamber of Trades added that it is currently in the process of informing and training companies on which health measures to adopt, in collaboration with the Multi-sector Occupational Health Service (Service de santé au travail multisectoriel, STM) and the country's various professional federations.
Regarding an economic recovery plan, the Chamber confirmed that it had just sent a global plan for the resumption of crafts activities to the Luxembourg government. This plan includes 36 proposals likely to be implemented in two stages (stage 1: May 2020; stage 2: June to December 2020) and revolves around the following priority axes: governance in terms of economic recovery; guidance for businesses; short-term measures to stabilise all economic activities; medium-term measures to ensure liquidity, competitiveness, profitability, productivity and the development of business skills.
