On Friday 10 January 2020, the Luxembourg Army witnessed the solemn promise of the 35th session of recruits at a ceremony at the Cultural and Sports Centre in Erpeldange-sur-Sûre.

In the presence of Luxembourg's Minister for Defense, Henri Kox, a total of 28 volunteer soldiers, including four of Portuguese nationality and four women, were sworn in. The ceremony marked the completion of four months of basic training for the volunteers; this phase aimed to prepare recruits for their military training, which continues for a total of 36 months.

During Friday's ceremony, a recognition medal was awarded to members of the Luxembourg contingents deployed abroad during 2018 and 2019 in Mali, Afghanistan and Lithuania, as well as to foreign soldiers. A foreign officer was also appointed to the rank of "Commander in the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg" at the same time.
