The Luxembourg Army yesterday celebrated the Feast of Saint Martin at the Diekirch Military Center.

The Saint Martin's Day celebrations were held in the presence of Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Fernand Etgen, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and François Bausch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.

On this occasion, Xavier Bettel presented the Cross of Honour ("croix d'honneur") and a silver-gilt Military Merit Cross ("croix de mérite militaire") to Chief Adjutant John Lanser, who was badly injured in the tragic accident at the Waldhof depot in February of this year.

In his address, François Bausch discussed the personnel reinforcements and military capabilities that will be soon operational. He spoke of the missions abroad and the support provided by the army during the recent natural disasters in Luxembourg before thanking all the staff for their commitment.

As part of the ceremony, General Alain Duschène, Chief of Staff of the Luxembourg Army, awarded a sword of honour to three soldiers, including an officer, a non-commissioned officer and a corporal, as a reward for their excellent performances during their respective initial training cycles.
