At their meeting on Wednesday, the Luxembourg Cabinet approved bills related to the Adapto transport service for disabled persons and to the construction of infrastructure in Esch-Belval in preparation for the European Capital of Culture 2022.

Concerning Adapto, the Cabinet endorsed the reform of this on-demand transport service adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The reform provides, among other things, free access to the service from March 2020. The Government had not previously planned to include the on-demand bus service in its plans for free public transport, but this reform, which has now been passed, overturned this decision in order to not discriminate against disabled commuters.

The Cabinet also approved a bill on the construction of infrastructures and facilities for the European Capital of Culture 2022 in Belval. It was agreed that the event's cultural and artistic programme will be held across an entire urban site grouping several buildings and elements of industrial heritage around the Blast Furnaces. The bill confirmed that the following infrastructures are to be developed, restored or constructed by the Fonds Belval (Ministry of Mobility and Public Works): the Möllerei, the Massenoire, the casting platform, the Fondation du Haut Fourneau A, the Skip, the Fondation du Haut Fourneau C, the production atelier, the urban pedestrian space and the administrative structure.

The Cabinet similarly approved the adaptation of sports facilities at the sports centre in Belval. These facilities will be adapted to accommodate the physical education and sports classes of the future pilot secondary school in Belval and international primary school in Mondercange, as well as the International School of Differdange and Esch-sur-Alzette (Esch site) and the Sanem primary school.
