A car crash that occurred in Wiltz yesterday afternoon has led to the death of a 2-year-old boy and injured four other passers-by.

On 2 January 2019, around 15:00, a car drove into a group of three adults and two children near the hospital on Rue Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Wiltz. According to an initial investigation, the act was carried out deliberately by a 47-year-old male Luxembourger.

There were five victims, including the perpetrator's ex-wife and their 2-year-old son- the latter did not survive his injuries. The other victims, which includes another infant, are currently hospitalised.

The public prosecutor's office in Diekirch has ruled this as an incident relating to family drama rather than an act of terrorism.

The perpetrator has since been arrested and was today referred before the investigating judge of Diekirch who conducted a judicial investigation.
