On Sunday morning, at around 06:30, an accident on the A3 motorway between the Croix de Gasperich and the Aire de Berchem, claimed the lives of three people.
Due to construction work, the motorway was reduced to using the carriageway in the direction of France, in a contraflow. A France-registered vehicle drove from Luxembourg on the boundary lane into oncoming traffic, where it hit a coach head-on. The four occupants of the car were seriously injured. In the coach, which was carrying around 20 people, two passengers received minor injuries.
The section of motorway had to be completely closed for the duration of the salvage work, a detour via the A4 was set up.
The driver and front-seat passenger of the France-registered car did not survive the accident - two 18 year-old men from the French border area. Later, an 18 year-old woman dies of her injuries in hospital.
