World City Miselerland 2018;

Organised for the second time, children from the Miselerland started their summer holiday together.

In Remerschen, the Maisons Relais from Schengen, Stadtbredimus and Dalheim, together with the Service de la Jeunesse from Mondorf-les-Bains, who organised this year's edition, invited all the children of the Moselle region to the World City Miselerland event. Every morning from 16 to 27 July 2018, between 350 and 400 children between the ages of 5 and 12 arrived in front of the school in Remerschen to tackle the day and their "World City" together.

The aim of the project, which was initiated by LEADER Miselerland together with the management of the Maison Relais Schengen, is to enable children live together in an age-appropriate way, irrespective of their origin, physical or psychological limitations. It is based on solidarity and social commitment of each individual. World City Miselerland was divided into continents, and while the "Australians" produced boomerangs and didgeridoos, they built a mud hut in "Africa". In "Europe" they discovered the world of graphite and in "Asia" the children experimented with Blacklight. The heatwave was defied with water games, while in parliament, election preparations ran at full speed.

In the safety team, children dealt with various topics relating to safety, for example online, and the media team was busy recording everything in pictures, sound and writing every day.

Regular guests also came to visit, and were asked to contribute personally by letting their skills or knowledge become part of the children. Jeff Strasser, for example, organised a football tournament with the children, and Frank Schleck ran a bicycle course focusing on safety. On the occasion of the Politicians' Day, members of the municipal government and mayors of the region were joined by Luxembourg's Secretary of State, Guy Arendt, Minister of the Economy, Etienne Schneider, and even the Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel. They answered children's questions and were interested in their concerns about politics and current and world affairs. They were also asked to lend a hand here and there.

In addition to the well-filled daily programme, World City also offered an evening programme for young people and adults for the first time. This will be expanded next year with additional actors, associations and integration commissions from the region.
