As of 1 January 2018, a couple with two children, a 14 year-old girl and a 10 year-old boy, would need €4,079 a month to live decently, that is to say, meet basic needs and participate actively to society, according to a report published today by Statec, Luxembourg's national statistics office.

A couple without children would need €2,707 and a single mother with a 14 year-old girl would need €2,724.

These thresholds can be considered as the minimum income (or threshold of absolute risk of poverty) to lead a decent life in Luxembourg. The decent minimum income (reference budget) is compared to the minimum social wage plus allowances, the traditional poverty risk threshold and average household consumption.
