The Grand Ducal Police had announced that, following raids on Automated Teller Machines (ATMS) in Remich, Strassen and Mersch during the week-end of 21-22 July 2018 two people have been arrested.

A "high amount of money" was stolen in the raids which were carried out by two perpetrators who were dressed as employees of a security company.

The investigations, initiated immediately following instructions by a judge at the district court of Luxembourg, were to lead very quickly to success. On Thursday 26 July 2018, officers of the Luxembourg Criminal Police were able to arrest a woman who is suspected of committing the crime. Meanwhile, her partner was arrested in France on the basis of a European arrest warrant.

Both alleged perpetrators were arrested in close cooperation with investigators from the French Criminal Police.

The proceeds of the crimes was recovered during several house searches in France.
